A Winter Journal Cont'd

I've spent the last couple of months tucked away in my cozy art space. When I first gave it a deep clean back in January, it felt fresh and open and full of possibilities. But now? Now, it has transformed into a glorious artsy mess full of paints, brushes, journals, scraps of paper, and teaching supplies scattered like remnants of a creative storm.

Despite the mess I’ve found moments to continue my own practice through my winter journals. They are part nature journal, capturing moments on my walks, in my backyard, or simply looking out my window. I fill its pages with words – some borrowed, and some of my own reflections and wonderings. It is also an exploration of my world through my favorite mediums. Each page is an experiment, a place for play—notes and ink sketches of bare trees and dried tangled weeds, acrylic paintings in colors mimicking those wonderful greens of lichen and moss, and collaged bits of gelli printed & hand painted papers that add texture to my musings.

This season, with all its stillness and cold, has given me space to create, to observe, and to simply be. And in that, I’ve found a kind of winter magic.
