A Winter Journal ii
The days are growing shorter, and the air carries a familiar chill—winter is approaching. This year, the winter solstice falls on Saturday, December 21st, marking the season's official arrival. Over the years, I’ve come to deeply appreciate this time of year. Winter offers a natural invitation to slow down, reflect, and embrace stillness. It’s also the perfect season for journaling—a discovery I made a few years ago.
I had always been drawn to the beauty of nature journals but found myself hesitant, intimidated by the idea of creating “perfect” pages adorned with flawless illustrations. Instead, I chose to start where I was, using what I already had, and focusing on what truly inspired me. This mindset allowed me to create a journaling practice that feels both personal and authentic, one that honors the quiet magic of the season.
My winter journal spreads are a reflection of what moves me in the moment—layers of paint, textured collages, sketches of trees, skies, and clouds, interwoven with writing. There’s no pressure, only exploration and curiosity. Each page evolves naturally, capturing my thoughts, feelings, and observations in a way that feels meaningful.
As winter approaches, I’m looking forward to immersing myself in this practice once again. It’s a ritual that connects me to both the season and myself—a reminder that there is beauty in slowing down, in embracing imperfection, and in letting creativity unfold.
So, what winter rituals are you creating? If you’re looking for a meaningful way to embrace this time of year, I encourage you to try art journaling.
