Currently Teaching: Print & Pattern Play
When I think about the classes I want to teach, they all have an element of experimentation, play and discovery. It is surprising how difficult this can be for many. We want instant, perfect results and can get easily frustrated when those results are less than…
My February Print & Pattern Play class at the Carborro ArtsCenter is reaching its end and my hope for my students is that they continue to allow themselves to create for the pure joy of it. There are so many possibilities in the imperfect!
Here is a glimpse of what we got up to in class.
The first class was an intro to gelli printing using subtractive an additive methods. We used found objects (in this case over a ghost print) to get interesting marks.
We spent another session creating our own stencils and stamps. These have endless possibilities for collecting very personalized papers that can stand alone or be used as collage in journals or in an art series.
We tried our hands at image transfers, probably the most challenging gelli printing technique. I consider the one above quite a success! Do not discard the imperfections, they have the ability to create the most interesting components in a piece.
Our last class will focus on using the papers we printed to explore collage.
I will be teaching another session of this class in March. If you are local and interested to learn more you can go here.
Wishing you moments of creative play & discovery -T
