Currently Reading: March

Books, Books, Books! I’m happy to finally be getting back to my “Currently Reading” series. It’s been almost a year since I last did a roundup of what I’ve been reading lately!

I try to make a concerted effort to pay attention to the book shelves and table top piles of books I already have, but being part of two book clubs, and being ever bedazzled by new book covers, can be a problem. Who’s with me?

Ok, so first up is One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle. I read this for a book club at Vita Vite, a wine bar in Raleigh. They host this event one Monday a month. You can purchase wine, and they provide snacks and questions to get conversations started. I love it, when I am able to attend.

Here is a brief summary of the book from Kirkus Reviews: “A 30-year-old married woman from Los Angeles, finding herself adrift after her mother’s death, travels to Italy on a long-awaited vacation they had planned to take together”.

What I loved most about this book was the setting. Positano is the best character and will make you want to book a flight to Italy. I’d say this is a good beach read.

Books, wine and conversation at Vita Vite, Raleigh.

Next up is When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill. This one is another book club read with a group I joined in 2019? We meet about once every 6 weeks and rotate hosting and choosing books.

Kirkus Review Summary: “As women around the world inexplicably transform into dragons, a young girl struggles to take care of her cousin in 1950s America.”

This was a beautiful book. If you love a bit of science-fiction/fantasy, and the complexities of female relationships and what it meant to be a woman in the 50s, you will enjoy this book immensely. It was a wonderful book club choice that led to honest and vulnerable conversations.

On a side note, this was my first audio book experience, and I couldn’t wait to get in my car to listen to it. I had to mostly listen in the car because apparently I am incapable of listening to audio books anywhere else as they immediately lull me to sleep!

Last up is Where Women Create. A magazine I love, don’t always buy, but almost always keep. So much gorgeous inspiration, and it’s a lovely read while sipping coffee, tea, or vino…

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into my reading world. My plan is to bring this series back in an effort to tackle those book piles ;)

So what have you been reading lately? Actually, don’t tell me until I’ve made a dent on the task above! heehee
